New On My Beauty Desk - May

Hi guys ! How was your weekend ? Did you watch the Royal Wedding on Saturday ? I was working but I did catch the highlights after work .

Today I will be sharing some new goodies that I'm currently testing out. There is a lot more than the goodies I'm sharing here - but I'm keeping all of those for separate product review posts pretty soon. As always some products I might have tested once or twice - some I will be trying in the next week or so to report back on.

Justine Tissue Oil Multipurpose Moisture Balm
This is a convenient on-the-go dry skin remedy balm formulated with the power of Justine's famous tissue oil to address any dry skin emergencies. I like the idea of a multi use product I can pop into my bag and use as a lip-balm / cuticle balm on the go. The container is quite big - and a little does go a long way so I'm really excited to start using it as I love the Justine Tissue Oil range.
Revlon Kiss Balm SPF20 in Tropical Coconut
I have the Fresh Strawberry scent one already and loved it - but since that one does leave a bit of a colour stain I wanted something more clear to just throw into my bag for any touch ups on the go. I love that it has sun protection - since my lips do get burnt easily . And it smells magical. I'm on a bit of a coconut scent goodies kick the last few weeks too .
Essence Kiss the Mermaid Lipstick
I was swatching this in Dischem with Alex - and he was amazed at the range of colour changing lippies. I got the Kiss MY Mermaid Lipstick - a blue lipstick that changes from blue to pink on your lips and leaves the prettiest stain on your lips. I got this as a Mother's Day gift from him - and super excited to wear this after the swatch was amazingly gorgeous (and lasted forever on my hand ) .

Hean Luxery Lipstick in Smoke Nude
I have mentioned my love for Hean products before . I got the Hean Luxery Lipstick in Smoke Nude. This is a gorgeous darker nude with a peachy undertone. This will look perfect for the colder months and I already know the Hean formula products doesn't irritate my lips - so very excited to rock this lippy. You can get it from Glamore Cosmetics  HERE

Essence Highlighting Powder in 01 Let It Glow
I'm a huge fan of the Essence singles products to click into my palette. Once one of my eyeshadow shades in my palette was finished I decided to rather get another highlighter instead to make it more of a travel friendly palette. This is a nice golden toned highlighter ( I personally prefer more of a champagne tone on my skin tone ) but it looks amazing with some more dramatic make-up.
Avon True Ultra Volume Lash Magnify Mascara in Blackest Black
Avon send me this stunning mascara to try out. I like the look of the brush and usually love Avon mascara formula's - so I'm very excited to try this out. I will be doing a full review on the blog soon.

Essence Holo Wow! Dewy Lip Shine in 01 Unicorn Powder
I only noticed the name now as I was typing - which suddenly makes me love this lipgloss 100 times more. This is a translucent lipgloss with a holographic effect. The colour will apply amazingly on any colour lipstick - but I chose this for an on the go brighten up my look lipgloss. It's amazingly sparkly and so pretty . The range has a few colour choices too - from a purple to a blue to an orange and a green.

Essence Tropical Hand Mousse
This was another product I got for Mother's Day from Alex . This is a foamy hand mousse that hydrates the skin deeply . The formula is infused with monoi oil and aloe Vera to moisturise hands without leaving it feeling greasy.
Essence Glow To Go Setting Spray
I was super excited when I saw this in Dischem . Sadly ... I have tried it out a few times and was left a little disappointed  .  This setting spray does an amazing job of setting your make-up and making you look fresh and glowly - but the downside is it is filled with little glitter pieces that end up all over your face and clothes.
The Ordinary Coverage Foundation in 1.0 N Very Fair
I read so many rave reviews about this foundation that I was extremely keen to try it ( I ordered the Huda Beauty Foundation too ... which I will get one day once customs is done taking their sweet time ) and ordered it from Cult Beauty when they offered free worldwide shipping. It got to me within four days (which is amazing since some local companies take forever to deliver ) . This foundation leaves my skin looking healthy - I did expect it to be a little more full coverage - but it's a pretty good foundation and I'm very happy with it. Especially since it was SUPER affordable too. I will be doing a full review on this foundation too.

Is there any product I showed here that you are super keen for a review on ?? How was your weekend ??

Avène Eau Thermale XeraCalm A.D Range

Hi guys ! Happy Monday . Hope you had a nice weekend spoiling mom ... or just chilling. It's such a cold rainy morning today in Johannesburg that I'm glad I have Mondays off - so I can chill with a big mug of coffee and a blanket.

A few weeks ago I was browsing around in Dischem checking out some of the Avene range. My son Alex has been struggling with some texture on his skin and I wanted to check some options to try. Overall he does have pretty good skin - but the sides of his cheeks gets extremely bad texture that gets itchy if it's too hot or too cold . I decided to pick up this pretty nifty set I spotted as it included a free Cicalfate and little Thermal Spring Water (which I already know works wonders on him ) to give a go.

The set retails for R550 and
includes :
Avene Cicalfate Cream 40 ml
Avene XeraCalm Lipid Replenish Cleansing Oil 400 ml
Avene XeraCalm Lipid Replenishing Balm 200 ml
Avene Thermal Spring Water 50 ml

A little bit more on the products included :

Avene Cicalfate Cream 40 ml
This is a great cream for sensitive and irritated skin as it soothes skin. This is especially great if the skin has been scratched too. (And it works great on any dry skin areas too!).This is a richer balmy texture so we only use this once a week especially after I know he did a lot of sports at school or had a school function and I know his skin needs a boost )

Avene XeraCalm Lipid Cleansing Oil 400 ml
This is one of the stars of this range. The XeraCalm A.D Lipid Replenishing Cleansing Oil is specifically formulated to cleanse dry sensitive skin. You can also use this in a bathtub by pumping a few pumps into your hand and mixing it into the bath water. Alex uses this as a face wash and on his arms that gets some extreme dryness too . I have to be honest on some days were my skin is extremely sensitive too I steal a pump too to wash my face at night time ) . This has truly made such a huge difference ! His skin doesn't feel dried out after using this wash.

Avene XeraCalm Lipid Replenishing Balm 200 ml
I love this balm. The XeraCalm A.D Lipid Replenishing Balm is formulated for moderate to severe itchy skin . We use this as a cream for his face and arms . I love how the product stays sterile as the pump only pumps out the product needed and can't be placed back into the container. This was another life saver. Within a day or two Alex's texture on his cheeks were basically completely gone. I really can't recommend this range enough.

Avene Thermal Spring Water 50 ml
I've done a full review HERE and it's been mentioned in countless favourites and empties posts. This is a great product in our household. I buy the huge bottle now , but this small one is perfect to pop into a work bag or sport bag. This little container has a permanent space in my mommy sport bag - as it's perfect to spray on his face after his tennis practise to cool him off as well as hydrate his skin after being in the sun.

Overall we have been using this range on him for just over two months - and while it might seem like a pricier option than most kiddies products - his skin is happy with this range . We aren't even halfway through the products as a little really goes a long way - so this containers will last us quite some time.

Dischem has little Avene sets ( I got myself the Cold Cream Value pack too which retails for R115 ) - with some new goodies I wanted to try and some old favourites ) which makes trying out the range more affordable.

How  was YOUR weekend ? Do you also suffer from dry irritated skin or used Avene products before ??

My picks from the Essence Wood You Love Me? Collection

Hi guys ! Happy Monday. How was your weekend ??

Today I'm sharing some of the goodies I got from the Essence Wood You Love Me Limited Edition collection. As always - this isn't everything in the collection - just the products that I felt I needed. There is still some cute nail files , make-up sponges eye pencils and two other polishes in the collection.

So let's jump into the goodies I got ...

Essence Energizing Eye Sheet Mask - Foxever in Love & Essence Hydrating Face Sheet Mask be Happy! Be A Bunny R44 each
If you follow me on social media you know it's no secret that I am obsessed with sheet masks (and masks in general to be honest). So I knew these I just had to have . These masks have cute animal inspired prints on the sheet and look super adorable. I haven't tried them yet - but once I do I will share them on social media. Both are super easy to use and stay on for 15 minutes (the perfect me time after a long day )
Essence Highlighter & Blush Palette in my Heart is Yours R64
I'm a sucker for Essence blushes - even though I can guarantee you I don't need ANY more blushes in my collection. This duo has a golden toned highlighter and a rosy pink blush. I love how small and compact it is and perfect to throw into a make-up bag or take along to a weekend away .
Swatches of the highlighter and blush.
The highlighter can be built up - while I prefer a more peachy toned highlight this golden hue is really gorgeous and the intensity can be built up easily ( or if used with a setting spray will have a more golden metallic toned hue ) . The blush is the perfect autumn / winter toned blush to warm up my cheeks on a cold day. And swoon who doesn't love a good Essence blush.
Essence Nail Polish Sweet Kisses R44
Honestly ... this is such a Lynette colour. These are the types of pinks I REALLY REALLY adore for everyday wear. Again - usually the limited edition polishes are amazing. The other two colours in the range is a green and a brown (which isn't my personal taste but both are still gorgeous ! )
Essence Smokey Eye Duo Brush R49
I love Essene make-up brushes and was intrigued  by the shape of this brush. The top part is V shaped - making it super easy to create a smokey eye look at the corner of your eye easily. The bottom part is a soft blending brush making blending the colour in easily. And let's be real - it's a pretty cute looking brush too !
Essence From the Forest With Love Eyeshadow & Highlighter Palette R79
Okay ... I wasn't 100% sure about the greens in this palette. The shades are all soft and gorgeous and bends easily. The dark green surprised me - I can see myself using that colour in a future make-up look. The sparkly light green - meh not so much. Overall - the brown tones in this palette is a gem.

Overall the eyeshadows are buttery and blends easily. The light green sparkly shade I can't see myself really using it ... the browns are all gorgeous and the dark green surprised me by being pretty awesome too. The highlighter is nice and brightening - and can perk up the inner corner of any eye-look .
Essence You are My Absolute Favorite! Lip Palette R79
The lipsticks smell amazingly yummy ! I was surprised how easily they apply - you can use a lip brush for more precision but I have been using my finger to tap on for a light wash of colour on my lips. I was surprised how different the swatches looked from the palette though - as the end colour looks almost dark brown / blackish to me.

The reds are all gorgeous - you get a nice rich version and a more metallic one ! The dark brown / black looking one in the palette turned out to be a gorgeous berry toned shade. The nudes gives you a metallic and a pretty beige toned colour. Overall I'm more impressed than I thought I would be .

Overall I was pretty impressed with the collection - but the must haves from this collection is without a doubt the lippy palette and the cute sheet masks if you love a good sheet mask. The blush / highlighter duo is also pretty convenient if you travel a lot or just love a good blush.

How was YOUR weekend ? Have you picked up anything from this collection ??

Nivea Perfect & Radiant Micellar 3-1 Cleansing Water

Hi guys ! Happy Friday . How has YOUR week been ? Mine has been CRAZY busy but luckily it's weekend . Except if you like me work on a Saturday.

Two weeks ago Rubybox was kind enough to send me the Nivea Micellar Water to test and review for you guys. I use Micellar water every single night to remove my make-up before using a cleanser / cleansing balm to remove almost all of my make-up . I find Micellar waters an essential step in my routine to remove make-up (as I prefer to first make sure ALL my make-up is gone so I know my skincare products can do their job )

The Nivea Micellar water claims to clean the skin , gently remove make-up , refreshes and tone the skin leaving you with a radiant appearance. The mildest way to deeply cleanse, tone and moisturise the skin with just one gentle sweep to reveal your natural, even radiance. Nivea® Perfect & Radiant Micellar 3 in 1 cleansing water with vitamin E cleanses effectively, yet gently traps even the smallest particles of dirt and make-up like a magnet.

The Nivea Micellar water is gentle enough to not sting my eyes ( I have extremely sensitive eyes so I can't use any Micellar water to remove eye make-up though ) but tough enough to remove even waterproof mascara. On nights that I had an extremely busy day and just want to get into bed - I have used just the Micellar Water to clean my skin and I'm good to go to bed (after using some moisturiser ... I'm not that savage yet ... )

I feel this is also an extremely good solution for those living in Cape Town with the drought - it does an AMAZING job of removing make-up and cleansing your skin without water - which is ALWAYS a bonus.

If you'd like to see my video of the product in action you can jump over to my Twitter page and watch the video HERE .

The Micellar water retails for R99,95 at leading retailers.

How was YOUR week ? Do you like to use Micellar Water ? Which is your favourites brand ?

Even though the product was sent for review all thoughts and opinions are my own

March Monthly Favourites

Hi guys ! Happy April ( Although I'm super late with favourites or any kind of posts this month ) .

Today I will be sharing my March favourites. March was my birthday month - it was also a super busy and stressful month. We were moving at work and my mom was in admitted to ICU on my birthday - so no fun really . I did spend the day with some special people .

So let's jump into the products :

Avon Mark Loose Pigment in Radiating Orchid
These loose pigments might seem hard to work with at first - but the colour payoff is amazing and they are pretty easy to use once you find a good brush. I was loving a pop of colour in March - and this was a go-to eye colour for me. I will be doing a full review on the two colours I have and how to use them with swatches a little later on this month too.
Pink Cosmetics Grapefruit Cleansing Balm
I have been eyeing some goodies from Pink Cosmetics for a while now - and after Siobhan from Sugar and Spice posted about this gem I knew I had to try it. While I love how easy micellar waters are for removing make-up - I sometimes prefer a cleansing balm - and I was blown away by how good this beauty is. It melts of any trace of make-up quickly and easily (even waterproof mascara ) and the scent is amazing ( I got the grapefruit scent ) . I haven't tried the Clinique Take The Day off cleansing balm but she said it's just as good. Since it's more of a oil based cleansing balm - I do feel it does give your skin some hydration back too - which is always a bonus especially with the colder months coming up. And with this a little does go a long way  .

Milani Conceal & Perfect 2-1 Concealer and Foundation in 00B Light
This month I have been loving two foundations . This was my go to everyday foundation. I love the coverage (medium coverage ) but how it still looks natural . I'm glad Milani came out with some lighter shades ( I used lighting drops in the one I had previously ) . This lasts on me all day ( with a good primer and setting spray of course ) , is super light weight (which was great for the hotter March days )  and gives me just enough coverage.
Body Shop Matte Clay Foundation in Peruvian Lily
I only got this foundation towards the end of March after reading a review or two - but I fell in love quickly. Moving and stress from work did let my skin break out a little and I wanted a foundation that could treat that issue while giving some coverage. The coverage is more on the medium side - but I love how it does help to treat blemishes. It does have a bit of a tea tree oil smell (which obv is treating those pesky spots ) but the scent luckily doesn't linger. I love how this foundation does keep me matte too . Mind you I'm more combination skin than oily but with this one I knew I didn't have to stress about getting shiny during the day.

Hean Gigant Shock XXL Volume Mascara
If you know me you know my go to mascara is usually an Essence mascara. Gael from Glamore Cosmetics sent me a little care package in March and in the parcel was this amazing mascara. I was blown away by how amazing this mascara made my lashes look , was EXTREMELY long lasting (especially since it's not waterproof but I do rub my eyes from allergies a lot during the day ) . This mascara lenghtens your lashes and gives it amazing volume (so much that even though I wanted to go for lash extensions - this mascara let's me forget I ever wanted to go ) Thanks Gael for introducing me to the best mascara ever.

Avon Rare Amethyst Perfume
As you know I'm extremely sensitive to strong scents - so that's one of the main reasons I won't really show any perfumes on the blog. But the Avon Rare Amethyst Perfume has stolen my heart. It's one of their more limited edition scents ( so anytime it does come out I buy a bottle or two ) but I feel this is me captured in a scent. It's a sexy seductive scent . Some of the scent notes are  plums , violets and sandalwood . This is truly my favourite scent ever.
Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso
A little while back on a blush post I did - I asked some of you what your favourite blush was . Cynthia from Of Life and Lacquer mentioned this being her go to blush - and as it was on my wish list for a while now I knew I had to try it. It's totally worth the hype - it's such an pigmented gorgeous peach tones blush that has a glow from within. This has quickly become my everyday favourite too - but now I'm tempted to try some more of the Milani blushes (which for the record I really really really don't need a new blush ) . Thanks for helping me find a new favourite Cynthia.
Milani Contour & Highlight Cream & Liquid Duo in 01 Fair / Light
When I placed my online order from Milani SA I got this little gem as a freebie. I always wanted to try the cream contour but never added it to my cart. I love the colour of the contour side - I love it so much that I actually do a little bit of contouring as part of my daily make-up routine now. The highlight side I use before using an additional highlighter - but this duo will be repurchased once I finish it.

I hope you all had a magical March . Which was one of your favourite products for the month of March ??

Avon Mark Epic Lipsticks Review & Swatches on 8 Colours

Hi guys ! Happy Monday. How was your weekend ? Mine was pretty chill ... I spend time with family as it's my birthday tomorrow (I'm turning 32 ... eeck ! ) so quality family time is always a bonus . I'm also super excited to spend time with the family over the Easter holiday .

Avon has come out with a new Mark Epic Lipsticks - that promises extremely pigmented lipsticks . I got eight of the mini sample sizes to swatch for you guys . I tried to go a little bit out of the box here for you guys - so I know not all the colours suit me personally - but hey ... I wanted to try something fun and different for you guys.

The lipstick is pretty moisturising and lasts a pretty decent time . The darker colours does leave a little bit of a stain - which is a bonus too - when the lipstick wears off the stain does stay . In total there are 26 head turning colours and they have awesome specials on these lipsticks in March and April. The lipsticks has a built in primer into the formula and a unique tapered tip (which I can't comment on as I bought the mini teeny tiny samples in the previous months book to try and review for you guys)

So let's jump into the colours - some were a little more pigmented than others.

The colours from left to right :

Spellbound
A gorgeous purple shade
Grey Matters
A light grey shade
Sugar Rush
A milky pink shade
Get Bronzed
A metallic bronzey shade

Get Bronzed : While I'm a very light nude fan , I decided to go outside the box and try this gorgeous bronzey shade. I'm sure this will be such a gorgeous shade on someone a little more tanned - but it's such a stunning shade .
Sugar Rush : It's no secret that this is such a Lynette shade. I wanted one I would be willing to wear to try out the formula and this colour didn't dissapoint. I would buy the full size of this colour as the colour is AMAZING !
Grey Matters : A light grey lipstick. I'm very into the grey hair / make-up looks so I was most excited to try this one. Formula wasn't as pigmented as the others - but it's such an unique colour .
Spellbound : Sigh... I wish I could look good in purple lipsticks. I love the look of purple / lilac lips . While it doesn't suit me - this is such a gorgeous pigmented colour (which for such a gorgeous purple is amazing.. no patchiness ... mind blown )

The colours shade from left to right :

Blue Suede
A dark navy blue
Heart Breaker
A blue toned red
Mermaid Tale
A mermaid-green
Wave Runner
A light baby blue

Wave runner : This is a baby blue shade. Again same as with Grey Matter - I didn't find this shade as opaque as the others.
Mermaid Tale : I really loved this shade on me - although I'm sure it looked horrible on my skintone. The colour is so bright and pigmented and mermaid- y.
Heart Breaker : I don't wear reds at all .. but wow I'm blown away by how gorgeous this shade it. If you looking for a stunning red (which makes your teeth look whiter and brighter ) this is a winner.
Blue Suede : Blue Suede is a dark navy blue that leans a little bit to the purple side. For such a dark colour this shade didn't have any issues being patchy - the formula went on ? smooth and the colour is super pigmented.

Overall - if you looking for bold fun lip colours - this range is truly a winner. I found a few surprise ones I do like ... and I can see myself getting some more of the pinker everyday shades to add to my collection .

Which colour would you like to try ? Are you into bold lip colours or a nude lip colour fan?

Dermalogica's Solution for Sensitive Skin

Hi guys ! Happy Thursday ! How has your week been ? Enjoyed the Public Holiday yesterday ? We are in the process of moving at work - so I'm super busy lately and the blog is a little more quiet - but hopefully that will settle down from next week.

Dermalogica released two new amazing products for Sensitive Skin. It's no secret that I do suffer from more sensitive skin and I like using Chemical Exfoliators, Microneedling and Retinol which does make my skin a teeny bit more sensitive on those days I use it. And I mentioned quite a few times on the blog I'm extremely sensitive to scents so even smelling a flower scent that's too strong will make my skin a little red and itchy.  All skin types can get sensitive skin - from dry to oily. Sometimes it can be an occasional flare up - and sometimes it can be quite intense that you feel like you want to hide your face from the world ( I had a little incident over December with using some of my Retinol on my neck which resulted in a dry itchy red neck for two weeks... eeeck !!! ) My nose area also tends to get super sensitive with seasonal changes especially where I had my mole removed two years ago - so that area needs some extra care on a regular basis too.

Dermalogica's new UltraCalming Duo takes the guesswork out of the equation by treating the irritation and dehydration caused by sensitive skin in two easy steps. Each product combines the best of nature's botanical extracts with innovation from the International Dermal Institute to powerfully soothe skin sensitivity.

Step 1 - Barrier Defence Booster R1220  This concentrated oil booster soothes and nourishes to restore balance to sensitive skin. I really love how a little goes a long way and it does instantly soothe skin. I love using just this oil as it really helps to combat the tight itchy dryness feeling I get after some stronger treatments ( or after a food allergy breakout ) .  I love how the products can be layered and used together or separately to address specific concerns.
Step 2 -  Calm Water Gel R890
This is an amazing weightless water gel moisturiser to hydrate dry sensitive skin. This formula is like nothing I've ever tried - it absorbs quickly into your skin yet leaves your skin amazingly hydrated and soothed. This unique formula transforms into a skin-quenching fluid upon application forming a weightless barrier to help protect skin. Dual Hyaluronic Acid technology works in different skin layers to increase and lock in moisture . I find this moisturiser is perfect after using the oil - and I prefer to use these beauties at night time - and although most of us turn to thicker night creams - this hydrates amazingly well and helps me wake up with softer smooth hydrated skin.

Overall , I love both products and I can see myself repurchasing the Barrier Defence Booster over and over again- although it's pricey a little does go a long way - so the container will last you quite a while before you need to repurchase.

Both of these products are now available from Dermalogica approved salons and Dermalogica Concept Stores  ( and bonus - if you buy from Sorbet you can even use your Clicks Clubcard and score some points ! ) as well as from Dermalogica's Online Store HERE .

How has your week been ??

Although both products were sent for review - all opinions are my own .
