Dermalogica's Solution for Sensitive Skin

Hi guys ! Happy Thursday ! How has your week been ? Enjoyed the Public Holiday yesterday ? We are in the process of moving at work - so I'm super busy lately and the blog is a little more quiet - but hopefully that will settle down from next week.

Dermalogica released two new amazing products for Sensitive Skin. It's no secret that I do suffer from more sensitive skin and I like using Chemical Exfoliators, Microneedling and Retinol which does make my skin a teeny bit more sensitive on those days I use it. And I mentioned quite a few times on the blog I'm extremely sensitive to scents so even smelling a flower scent that's too strong will make my skin a little red and itchy.  All skin types can get sensitive skin - from dry to oily. Sometimes it can be an occasional flare up - and sometimes it can be quite intense that you feel like you want to hide your face from the world ( I had a little incident over December with using some of my Retinol on my neck which resulted in a dry itchy red neck for two weeks... eeeck !!! ) My nose area also tends to get super sensitive with seasonal changes especially where I had my mole removed two years ago - so that area needs some extra care on a regular basis too.

Dermalogica's new UltraCalming Duo takes the guesswork out of the equation by treating the irritation and dehydration caused by sensitive skin in two easy steps. Each product combines the best of nature's botanical extracts with innovation from the International Dermal Institute to powerfully soothe skin sensitivity.

Step 1 - Barrier Defence Booster R1220  This concentrated oil booster soothes and nourishes to restore balance to sensitive skin. I really love how a little goes a long way and it does instantly soothe skin. I love using just this oil as it really helps to combat the tight itchy dryness feeling I get after some stronger treatments ( or after a food allergy breakout ) .  I love how the products can be layered and used together or separately to address specific concerns.
Step 2 -  Calm Water Gel R890
This is an amazing weightless water gel moisturiser to hydrate dry sensitive skin. This formula is like nothing I've ever tried - it absorbs quickly into your skin yet leaves your skin amazingly hydrated and soothed. This unique formula transforms into a skin-quenching fluid upon application forming a weightless barrier to help protect skin. Dual Hyaluronic Acid technology works in different skin layers to increase and lock in moisture . I find this moisturiser is perfect after using the oil - and I prefer to use these beauties at night time - and although most of us turn to thicker night creams - this hydrates amazingly well and helps me wake up with softer smooth hydrated skin.

Overall , I love both products and I can see myself repurchasing the Barrier Defence Booster over and over again- although it's pricey a little does go a long way - so the container will last you quite a while before you need to repurchase.

Both of these products are now available from Dermalogica approved salons and Dermalogica Concept Stores  ( and bonus - if you buy from Sorbet you can even use your Clicks Clubcard and score some points ! ) as well as from Dermalogica's Online Store HERE .

How has your week been ??

Although both products were sent for review - all opinions are my own .

February Favourites

Hi guys ! Happy Wednesday . How has your week been so far ??

Today I'm sharing some of my favourite February products. I tried to keep it short and sweet since I did review most of the products I love during February and didn't want too much repeats. These are the products that impressed me during the month of February.

REN Perfect Canvas Skin Finishing Serum
I did a full review HERE - but I am really loving this serum / primer so much I haven't been able to put it down. I have been using this instead of primer the last few weeks and my skin just love this serum. This is truly a results driven serum and I see myself reaching for this daily.
CATRICE Prime & Fine Professional Contouring Palette 010 Ashy Radiance
This is a little duo with a contouring powder as well as a gorgeous highlighting powder. While the contouring side is okay - I was blown away how amazing this highlighter is. It's currently my daily go too and last pretty amazingly (even in this hot summer weather without sliding off your face ). I love how build-able it is ... you can go from puppy kisses to unicorn glow in a matter of seconds. CATRICE is a pretty affordable brand so I'm glad the highlight wasn't full of annoying glitter - just pure sheen to glow.

Avon True Glow Bronzing Powder in Medium Riviera & Avon True Colour Glazewear Lipgloss in Perfect Pout
I was looking for a bronzer to warm up my skin now that I don't get to spend that many weekend outdoor at the pool anymore. The bronzer isn't too orangey and warms up your face perfectly. I love how this doesn't look muddy and blends pretty easily . I use this one days that I want to contour my face too - but instead of a big fluffy brush I will use a more precise contour brush.
The perfect pout lipgloss I have mentioned a few times on the blog before. This is the most perfect milky pink lipgloss in the world - and yes I have a back up or two in my beauty stash.

Revlon ColorStay Creme Eyeshadow in 745 & Essence My Must Haves Eyeshadow in Brownie'licious
For most of the month of February I've been wearing this magical colour combo on my eyes. I will start of with Essence Brownie'licious in my crease - and then pop some of the Revlon Creme Eyeshadow on the lid.
The Revlon Creme eyeshadow is a potted creme eyeshadow - and has a little mini brush hidden in the lid. The creme eyeshadow is extremely long lasting even without eyeshadow primer on and will last until I take it off at night. The mini brush does help to apply the colour - although to be honest I prefer using my finger.

The colour is really gorgeous too - I might pick up some more from this range.
Again the Essence colour is no newbie on the blog. It has been mentioned in a few favourites. It's such a perfect colour for me and these two colours look amazing together.

Some of my favourites moments this month includes my little guy Alex's 8th birthday as well as him coming second in his school's Public Speaking .

What was some of your favourite products in February ? Any magical moments ?? I'm really excited for March and my March favourites as it is my birthday month and I'm sure I'll have some awesome products to share with you guys again.

Flaunting My Fearless with Clairol Color Crave

Hi guys ! Happy Monday . How was your weekend ? I had the most chill weekend with family and the kiddo playing and just relaxing.

Two weeks ago Rubybox sent me the Clairol Color Crave in Orchid to try out. I was really excited to give this a go as I am a little clueless what I want to do with my hair this year. The Clairol Color Crave range has 6 fun colourful colours that work on blond and brunette hair. What I love that no bleaching is required but the lighter your hair the longer the wear time.

It's pretty easy to use too - wet hair ... apply with the brush for a easy paint on application  ... wash and voila. No mixing is required (this is a direct dye formula ) and I love the funky black gloves that comes with the set. I left my colour on for 20 minutes - but you can easily leave it a little longer for a brighter look.

This range is paraben , peroxide and ammonia free. The formula claims to have no fade colour surprises and last 15 washes. As I mentioned on the blog before ... I do wash my hair mostly everyday. So far I really love my results. My hair is noticeable darker - but I love that since I had blonder highlights still visible in my hair how amazing the colour results look. I wasn't expecting to be blown away and love the colour as much as I am currently doing. It does wash away evenly. On lighter hair the colour will last a little longer - and I can definitely see that is true but this isn't too in your fave purple - I actually feel this colour is so me.
I'm not quite at the 15 washes mark - but the last photo in this collage is on day 12 ... and as you can see the main colour is lighter .. but the purple is still pretty visible in the lighter blonder parts. After 7 washes I did notice a quite significant fade - but the colour was still there . I do love the shade options - but I feel I can see myself using the Orchid again . The boxes retail for R124,90 at Dischem. My hair didn't feel dried out after colour or the week of colouring - my hair was soft , nourished and looked amazing.

The colour ranges and my before ... after and after 7 washes  photos  :

Overall ... as I mentioned I'm really loving the purple ... the colour worked fantastic on my highlighted hair ... and I felt it gave it an overall pretty impressive end result in tone. I might even try the Flamingo pink shade too - but I feel the purple is so me .

Would you switch up your hair colour if it meant no damage to your hair ??

Product was sent for review but thoughts are all my own

Empties #01

Hi guys. Happy Wednesday. How has your week been so far ??

Today I will be sharing my first empties post. These are all products that I've finished in 2018 so far - and I hope to share many more empties posts with you guys this year. I feel empty posts are the best as they give the best review since the product was used completely. My first empty post includes some haircare , body care , candles , make-up and sheet masks and a mask or two from Tara & Jack. Some products I've done a full review on previously - and I'll link reviews were possible.

So let's jump into my trash ... errrm empties ...

Eau Thermale Avene Thermal Spring Water
I mentioned this in numerous monthly favourites and I buy the big bottle for the last two times I have repurchased. This is such a firm favourite in my routine - I use it to set make-up on some days ... to calm down my skin after some of my stronger facial treatments - after some yoga or running  . Name it I use it. Alex loves this after his sport practice too - so in our house it's a firm favourite. Yes already repurchased another huge bottle so this will be in another empties again.
Johnsons Tissue Oil Firming Body Oil with Green Tea Extract
This was a last minute product I grabbed in December before I left Clicks - and I'm so glad I did. This oil really hydrated my skin so nicely. I use it at night after my shower or bath especially on my thighs / upper legs and stomach . I have noticed the skin does feel smoother after using it . I have repurchased this oil but in a different scent which I like a little bit more. But this one is amazing.
Avon Advanced Techniques Shampoo and Conditioner Miracle Densifier
When I got this in PR in December I wasn't sure if I'd like it. This has quickly become my favourite daily shampoo and conditioner and I'm really sad that it is finished. It doesn't weigh down my hair , makes it look and feel so smooth and hydrated. I haven't repurchased this range yet as I was sent a few different variants that I am trying out now - but I will definitely repurchase this again.

Essence Volume Stylish Lash Extension Mascara
It's no secret that I love Essence mascaras . This was another one I saw really raved about on YouTube and decided to give it a try. I wasn't blown away after the first use , or the first week - but this now is hands down the one I pick most days. It lasts forever on my eyes (and I rub my eyes a lot through the day *allergies* ) . This really lasts amazingly well and looks amazing. I have already repurchased this mascara as I really love it.
INOAR Argon Infusion Oil Treatment
This is such an amazing hair treatment. This little container offers about 4/5 treatments for me personally and I have longer hair. This I use as a weekly treatment as I heat style my hair daily and this helps keep my hair looking healthy and hydrated . I use it on my mom that perms her hair too and it soften her curls and keeps them frizz free too.
Tara and Jack Le Masque Apple Stem Cell Mask
This is my absolute favourite mask from the The Beautiful Store . I love that this mask I can keep in the fridge and it lasts me about 10 days if I use it every night. Keeping it in the fridge gives it an amazing nice cooling effect on the skin too and this mask makes my skin look plump and healthy. It's seriously one of my favourites. It's also one perfect to gift to family and friends .
Tara and Jack Le Masque Anti Wrinkle & Illuminating Mask
I love the texture of this mask. The sachet is enough for two uses and dries to a rubbery finish which is so much fun to peel off. It peels off very easily and leaves my skin feeling firmer. Honestly this is such an amazing mask .

Baylis & Harding Wild Blackberry & Apple Candle
When these Baylis and Harding candles came out in Dischem last year I knew I wanted to try one in the range. It was pretty affordable at R145 and I decided to treat myself. There are a few variants but this one seemed the safest as I don't love floral scents and this seemed more fruity. Overall I loved how soft the scent was (this wasn't something that knocks you out because it's too strong ) so it's not too overpowering at all. I still have some Bath and Body Works and Makro candles I got that I want to use first but I will definitely repurchase this candle.
Tony Moly Sheet Mask Clear Skin
I tried this after my skin really broke out a week or two ago. Honestly I wasn't blown away by this mask. The scent was way too overpowering and had a very strong floral scent. It didn't really help anything for breakouts too sadly . I won't be picking up another one of these although I have one in my little sheet-mask collection that I still need to use.
Tony Moly Sheet Mask Seaweed Skin Purifying
While I didn't love the Clear Skin one - I really loved the purifying sheet mask. This did an amazing job to help keep my skin clear and my skin did look a lot brighter after using it. I will definitely stock up on these ones.

BodyTreat Blueberry Face Mask with Collagen
Clearly I'm a huge fan of sheet masks. I find them super easy to use and treat my skin and myself in the process. Honestly this mask was okay - not my favourite but it was okay and did plump my skin. I doubt I will repurchase this one again as I prefer the Skin Strategy range from Dischem as I find they work so much better for me and is a little cheaper.
Sephora Green Trea Mask
This is another anti-blemish one my aunt bought for me from America. I really really like that it did help with my skin texture and clear up my smaller blemishes.  If I could walk into a store and buy them I would definitely.
Sephora Pomegrate Face Mask
This is a anti-fatigue and energising mask. I have to say it did give my skin a boost and made it look so much for healthier and plumper . Again if I could walk into a store and buy them I would as I really loved using this one.
Sephora Pearl Mask
I didn't really see any specific change in my skin this was a really nice mask to use as my skin felt so much more hydrated and plump. Overall I did like like it though.

The Creme Shop Aloe Vera Sheet Masks
This was another range my aunt bought at TJ Maxx in America when she was visiting some family there. I really really love this range . It came in a 5 pack and I will truly be sad once these are finished. These were amazing to use after spending a day next to the pool as they are extremely hydrating and cooling on the skin. I wish I could just pop into a store here and pick them up ... they were amazing.
Wish Bioaqua Lip Mask
I got these in a little set of 10 off Wish .. as a free product that I just needed to pay shipping on. Overall I'm really impressed how hydrating these masks are . I love using these as a weekly treat on my lips to keep them smooth and hydrated. Yes I will be stocking up on more of these. They are pretty bomb.
Schwarzkopft Bonacure Fibreforce Hair Therapy Shampoo
I got this last year when I went blonder. This shampoo is amazing to use once a week to make your hair stronger - it really does work amazingly as it enforces your hair with Keratin. This variety is made especially for extremely damaged hair and it does restore your hair health. I will definitely repurchase again down the road when I need it again because it does look

That's it for my first Empties post - wow that was quite a mouthful of mini reviews . What is a product you finished most recently ?? Anything fun ??

My Top 5 Everyday Nude Polishes

Hi guys ! Happy Friday . How was your week ? Hopefully not too hectic . Mine has been very busy with juggling parenthood (and a kid with a million and one activities ) with work and blogging. But I survived - so a big yeah for that.

Today I will be sharing my Top 5 Everyday Nude Nail Polishes with you guys. As you know I love a good nude nail polish - and they are usually my go to shade every week ( well at least until my good friend Siobhan convinced me to do the #52weeknailchallenge with her) .

For the last few years I usually just went with nude nails and the occasional pink nails as my go to. I love how classic it looks and that it goes with everything. Most work environments require a more neutral look and nothing too over the top.  Do I think it might be a little boring and predictable ? Sure , perhaps if you like more bolder colours ... But these are my favourites that I recommend to anyone looking for a good nude polish staple in their collection.

Essence el Nail Polish Dream On
This is a stunning polish Essence sent me last year December in a PR package - and they must have known my love for a good nude nail polish. This colour is more light yellow toned nude polish - but even though I prefer more white or beige toned nudes - this one has a great wear time and looks pretty awesome too. I wore it for the #52weeknailchallenge HERE .
Revlon ColorStay Gel Envy in All or Nothing
I love the Revlon gel line polishes. With the special Revlon Gel Top coat I find these last extremely well and can easily throw whatever your weeks throws at you . I don't know if the darker colours in the range last as well - but I have two of the more nude / pink ones and they last forever. This is such a classic light milky pink that really compliments light skin tones (although I'm pretty this will look amazing on darker skin tones too )
Sally Hansen Gel Miracle Birthday Suit
As with the Revlon Gel Range I do love the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel line. This line also has a special top coat - and although it takes a little longer to dry - it does help prolong the wear on these polishes. Again ... I have quite a few in the range and they do last amazingly well and the colour is such a classic everyday nude that goes with everything . To get opacity like in the swatch picture - I'd recommend 3 coats.
OPI My Vampire is Buff
OPI My Vampire is Buff is a creamy yellow nude polish. While I don't really love of gravitate towards these kinds of nudes - I really love the look of this polish . Formula wise the polish is a little more sheer so about three coats are needed for opacity .
piCture pOlish Beige
piCture pOlish Beige is a classic nude creme polish. Formula wise this polish is amazing and goes on like butter. This is one of my favourites as it lasts amazingly well and looks stunning. All downside they are extremely hard to find in South Africa - but if you can get your hands on any of these polishes they are amazing to own.

What are some of your favourite nude nail polishes to wear ?

My Favourite Sunscreen Products

Hi guys. Happy Wednesday ! How has your week been so far ?

Today I'm sharing some of my favourite sunscreen products with you . I wear sunscreen every day - come rain or shine and I let my son wear sunscreen on a daily basis too - so these are our favourite ones we are currently using. I believe sunscreen is such an important step in your daily routine - not only is sunburned skin super sore - it makes you age faster too . I believe sunscreen not only protects your skin - but is such an important step to keep you looking younger for longer.

Justine Tissue Oil Skin Repair Face Cream SPF 20  (Normal Skin & Oily Skin versions)
I actually started using the smaller tube bottle of these on Alex a year or two ago as he was really struggling with dry skin and I wanted to get a good cream to hydrate his face and give sunscreen benefits. Now it's all that he uses This face cream is absorbed into the skin easily and helps moisture soften and protect against sun damage and premature ageing . I'm currently using the all skin types version on Alex - but they have this amazing cream in a Oily Skin version too - which I'm keen to try out once I finish the Justine Oil Control Moisturiser with SPF30 .

Justine Oil Control Daily Moisturiser SPF 30
I've done a full review on the Oil Control range HERE . This is my favourite moisturiser at this stage - it hydrated your skin yet keeps it matte and sun protected and doesn't make you look like an oily mess at the end of the day. I can see myself repurchasing this one again and again - as this is the perfect summer moisturiser for me .
Tissue Oil SPF 25
I'm already a huge fan of the Justine tissue oil range - and I like that they added a tissue oil with SPF . This tissue oil formula has a unique blend of UV filters , sweet almond oil and corn germ oil , Castor oil , wheatgerm oil and Vitamin E to nourish your face and body while providing added sun protection. I love using this on my shoulders and body during weekends if I know we will be spending lots of time at the pool . This helps keep my skin nourished and sun protected - which I love.

Justine SolarTec Mattifying Defence for Face SPF 50
When I reviewed the Oil Control range I did mention I was using it with a Justine sunscreen. This is such a gem sunscreen. It offers a very high sun protection (SPF 50 ) yet keeps your skin mattified . I love using this sunscreen over the Oil Control moisturiser on days that I know I will be spending a lot of time in the sun (after school Tennis practise for the kiddo , spending time at the pool or braai with family and friends ) as this is one of the few sunscreens that keeps you mattified throughout the day.
Justine SolarTec Lip Shield SPF 25 and Almay Age Essentials Lip Treatment SPF 30
Both of these are amazing lipbalms with sun protection. I've mentioned about a million times I've got extremely sensitive lips - and if I spend too much time in the sun the will get red and sunburned . I use these lipbalms when I'm out and about (driving in the car ... sitting at Alex's sport events  and tennis practise ... before I go out to the pool ... ) basically anytime I know I will be outdoors mostly. I really feel they both help amazingly well to keep my lips normal and hydrated (and not red and sunburned ) . I prefer the Justine one to keep in my handbag / work bag ( I have one for each bag) and the Almay one for when I'm at home and go swimming .

These are all my current sunscreen favourites ? What's your current go to sunscreen ??

Some of the products were sent for review . All opinions are my own

REN Perfect Canvas Skin Finishing Serum

Hi guys . Happy Monday ? How was your weekend ??

Last week REN launched a new Ultimate Skin Perfecting Serum - I was lucky enough to receive this in PR in January - so I could test it out properly before doing a review .

REN describes this product the perfect silicone free serum to use after moisturiser. This helps to ensure skin is smoothed, lifted and naturally filled , resulting in a matte finish to create the perfect canvas for make-up.

Perfect Canvas Skin Perfecting Serum is formulated with probiotics extract that positively influences the speed and quality of the epidermal growth, boosting the production of essential proteins and enzymes which improves the barrier function and cell cohesion , promoting overall skin health and structure.

Hyluronans that covert the HA in the skin, increase skin hydration , elasticity and and the reduction of wrinkle depht while Agave tequilana extract provides an instant filling effect and mattifies without the use of silicone. Lastly the a-Glucans re balances the homeostasis of the skin by promoting the growth of skin friendly bacteria , optimising skin health.

All these result in a mattified finish - the skin's moisture balance is restored , the skin's natural appearance is enhanced and skin is ready and prepped for make up.

You simply apply two / three drops on your fingers and apply after moisturiser until fully absorbed.

So my personal thoughts :
A little goes a long way - I personally find two drops more than enough to use after my moisturiser. The product does absorb into the skin pretty quickly .I have been using this instead of a primer for the last few weeks and I did find I didn't need to use a primer - my make-up stayed on and looking flawless throughout the day. My skin really benefits from the extra boost of hydration - because even though in summer my skin tends to be more on the oily side - my skin still gets dehydrated pretty quickly in this hot weather. I have used this with a BB Cream as well as a foundation I hated but wanted to finish up on my off days - and let me tell you it even helped to make that foundation look flawless . I won't say this will completely mattify your skin - on hot days you will still get a little oily - but it does a pretty good job to mattify your skin without it feeling tight and dry - which for me is a huge bonus. I'm also very impressed that it is silicone free as most primers these days tend to be silicone based - so my skin was very happy about that too. I love how this "primer" has so many good skincare benefits - which makes this such a great contender - who doesn't love a product that combines skincare with make-up benefits ??

This product is for all skin types and retails for R995 for 30 ml. Which seems a little pricey but a little goes a long way and it's basically skincare ingredients and priming ingredients - so you get the best of both worlds.

It's available at selected Woolworths stores as well as REN online .

How was your weekend ? Do you also love multi benefit products for your skin ??

Although product was sent for review all opinions are my own

My 6 Favourite Pink Face Products

Hi guys ! Happy Wednesday . And Happy Valentine's day to those celebrating. If you don't - then happy Wednesday.

Today I'm bringing you the last instalment of my 6 Favourite Pink Face products. These are all products I love and reach for on a almost daily basis . So let's jump into the products .

Glamore Cosmetics Bevel Make-Up Sponge
These Glamore Cosmetics Bevel sponges are the best make-up application tool ever. I don't own a Beauty Blender - and after trying these sponges I'm sure I'll never try another one. This is so soft and squishy and blends your foundation like a dream. And it's pretty affordable too !
Hean Face Contour Mix
I'm sure it's pretty obvious that the blushes in this palette are loved. I love the rosy golden tone of the top blush ( on which I've clearly hit pan on) and can't recommend it enough . The darker matte pink blush is gorgeous too ( I have some swatches after the next blush ). This blush lasts almost all day on my skin and looks so natural yet stunning. It blends very easily too. Even though the shade I hit pan on looks sparkly in the pan it doesn't leave a glitter mess on your skin.
Almay Smart Shade Powder Blush in Pink / Rose
First off how cute is the design ? This is another favourite blush for more natural days where I just pop on some BB-Cream and mascara. It mixes to a soft pink which I love and looks amazing on my skin tone.
Swatches of Blushes :

Essence Colour Correcting Liquid Concealer in Wake Me Up
This is a lovely pink toned concealer . I prefer to use this over foundation under my eyes to brighten up the under eye area and look more awake. I love how it instantly brightens up my complexion and blends very easily . This is my secret weapon on those mornings where I REALLY REALLY struggle to feel awake even after coffee.
Essence My Must Haves Eyeshadows in Raspberry Frosting & Cotton Candy
These are two of my favourite Essence My Must Have single eyeshadows. I love mixing them in with some of my more neutral shades for a pop of colour. Raspberry Frosting makes an amazing blush too. Cotton Candy gives the most gorgeous inner corner highlight to make you look fresh and ready to tackle the day . I've included some swatches of them too.
